To ensure its strategies are better aimed at improving its economyic growth, the Federal Government says it will further strengthen the framework for concessions and public private partnerships (PPPs) by 2022. Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, stated this during the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX)’s Capital Markets Conference, on Tuesday. Osinbajo, while speaking at the conference said, the NGX can spur the growth of the economy and must be prepared to work with the country’s AfCFTA negotiators especially as it is progressing towards setting the rules in the services sector. Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says Nigeria’s maritime sector is a haven of opportunities for the world to exploit. Amaechi said on Tuesday at the virtual 2021 Greek-Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Technology Investment and Trade Forum that Nigeria is a strategic destination for investments opportunities. He stressed that the maritime sector should be particularly attractive to Greek trading and shipping financing. The minister noted that security on Nigeria’s waterways had improved so tremendously as to encourage increased investments. According to him, Nigeria is open to investments in seaports and other maritime activities.[Guardian]

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has raised the volume of foreign exchange sales to the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) category businesses by 31 percent in the first seven months of this year (January to July 2021). findings from the CBN’s schedule of “foreign exchange flows through the Nigerian economy”, indicated that a total of $867.68 million was sold to the SMEs during the period, as against $660.9 million in the corresponding period of 2020. In the review period of 2021, CBN made the highest sales of forex amounting $153.58 million to SMEs in June. This was higher by 47 percent when compared to $104.2 million sold in the corresponding period of 2020.[Vanguard]

The federal government has set up a tomato paste and juice factory in Uke, Nasarawa State to boost local economy and reduce reliance on importation. Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Abdullah, who laid the foundation ceremony for the factory yesterday said the development of this project would effectively stem the tide of rural-urban migration and boost employment opportunities of local residents in the state and by large the country.[Leadership]

The Provost College of Health Technology, Obosi, Anambra State, Dr Robinson Mgbakogu says the college has received a total of one hundred and ten Laptops from the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), to further expand the College, Technologically. He said the Laptops were presented to the College by the Executive Director of NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta, in the second quarter of this year, 2021. [Tribune]
