President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday named Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to lead a Health Sector Reform Committee expected to commence the development and implementation of a health sector reform programme for Nigeria in collaboration with state governments and the FCT administration. A statement by Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman said the committee is sequel to a health sector diagnostic review report developed by a consultant, Vesta Healthcare Partners and the federal ministry of health. This is as the president approved the appointment of Ifedayo Adetifa as the new director-general of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Adetifa replaces Chikwe Ihekweazu, the outgoing director-general of the NCDC, who was recently appointed as the assistant director-general of health emergency intelligence at the World Health Organisation (WHO), ahead of his resumption in November. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Fatima Waziri- Azi,Ph.D as Director General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) . This is sequel to a recommendation of the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, who expressed the “urgent need for the Ministry to intensify on the existing capacity in the NAPTIP in order to achieve its Key Result Areas as identified.” NIGERIAGOV
Ibrahim Haruna, director of the press and public relations department at the ministry of industry, trade and investment, stated this in a statement on Tuesday. Niyi Adebayo, minister of industry, trade and investment, explained that the MoU was not limited to the area of trade forum alone. Adebayo, represented by Danjuma Alhassan, legal director of his ministry, said the agreement would strengthen business relationships and promote enhanced trade relations between Nigeria and Gulf countries. He also said the MoU would further enhance the dissemination of vital market information, host conferences, seminars and business forums. CABLE
The Federal Government, says it has enrolled 711 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) platform. The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, made this known in Lagos on Monday, at a training for IPPIS Role Players in the South-West. Idris, who was represented by Mr Salawu Zubairu, Director, Consolidated Account, office of the AGF, said the number enrolled was out of a thousand MDAs in the country. The AGF said that his office would not relent on its mandate, until all government employees were migrated into the IPPIS platform. He said the Federal Government was desirous to decentralise the management of payroll, so that any issue encountered in the implementation of IPPIS, could be resolved without travelling down to Abuja. The Federal Government will soon commence work on the proposed Bonny Deep Seaport project in Rivers State, according to Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation. Consequently, Bonny has joined the list of proposed deep seaports in Nigeria, which brings the number of both Federal and State Governments deep seaport projects to eight including Lekki, and Badagry in Lagos State, Olokola in Ondo State, Ibom in Akwa Ibom, Ogidigben in Delta State, Agge in Bayelsa State and Calabar in Cross River State. Apart from Lekki Deep Seaport, which has witnessed about 45 percent progress in construction works, several of these proposed deep seaports in Nigeria are still on either conceptualisation or paper work stages. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the appointments of new chief executives for some agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education. The appointments were made known in a statement signed by the Director, Press And Public Affairs, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Bem Goong, on Wednesday. Goong said the president also approved the reappointment of the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, for a second and final tenure of five years, with effect from August 1. Also, Prof. Bashir Usman was reappointed as the Executive Secretary, National Commission For Nomadic Education, for a second and final tenure of five years. PUNCH
The Federal Government on Wednesday approved the federal roads and bridge tolling policy regulations, bringing tollgates back across the nation. The decision was reached at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The government also said that diplomatic vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, military and Para-military vehicles will be exempted from paying tools. This is coming 18 years after the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo dismantled all toll plazas on federal roads across the country in 2003. The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola stated this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the First Lady’s Conference room, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
