The Federal Government is set to begin the administration of COVID-19 booster shots tomorrow, December 10, 2021. The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib stated this during the flag-off of the mass vaccination campaigns for Internally Displaced Persons in Abuja. According to Shuaib, the Federal Government had resolved to make use of the Pfizer Bio-N-tech vaccine as booster shots. Shuaib further stated that those eligible for the booster shots have to be 18 years and above. [Punch]

President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday commissioned a seaward defence boat NNS Oji locally made in Nigeria by men of the Nigerian navy and a helicopter on Thursday in Lagos. Buhari also commissioned six newly acquired ships, including NNS Lana, Kano, Ikenne, Aba, Sokoto and Osun, 111 boats and one helicopter, charging all naval personnel to maintain professionalism and ensure good use of the newly built and acquired vessels including NNS Lana, Kano, Ikenne, Aba, Sokoto and Osun. Speaking at the event, which also marks the keel-laying ceremony for the construction of Boat-IV and Boat-V, President Buhari said the new inductions to the naval fleet would boost their capability in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.[Guardian]

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has released N5 million as grant to three top winners of the 2021 Emerging Technologies Research and ICT Innovation Competition and Exhibition. The overall winner got N2.5 million while the first runner up got N1.5 million and the second runner up got N1 million. The Emerging Technologies Research and ICT Innovation Competition and Exhibition, is an annual competition, organised by NCC to promote startups development and to boost local developed solutions that address specific needs of organisations. The federal government with Chinese company, Messrs Cowang Limited, at the weekend signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to promote trade and investments in the country. Signing the document on behalf of the Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adebayo, Mrs. Olukemi Arodudu, who is the Director, Investment Promotion Department of the Ministry. She explained that Cowang limited is an Asian company that is set to introduce Asian companies that can sponsor major events in Nigeria in exchange of giving the advertisement spaces to showcase their products and services. Olukemi Arodudu, expressed optimism that the signing of the Memorandum would pave profitable paths for the economy of Nigeria. [Vanguard]

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the 106.341 kilometer Kano — Maiduguri Road, Section 3 Azare — Potiskum linking Bauchi and Yobe States. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President inaugurated the completed Section 3 of the giant road project in Azare, Headquarters of Katatagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Buhari, represented by Amb. Maryam Yalwaji-Katagum, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, said the project was part of his administration’s commitment to provide quality road infrastructure in the country.[Vanguard]

The Federal Government says it is set to commercialise the nation’s 12 River Basins to enable them to deliver on their mandate effectively. The Director, River Basin Operations and Inspection at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mr John Ochigbo, made the declaration at a news conference on Wednesday in Benin. He addressed the news conference as part of activities at the on-going 10th National Water Conference where he represented the minister, Mr Suleiman Adamu. Ochigbo noted that the 12 basins were almost comatose before 2016, but that they had been repositioned for greater efficiency by engaging professionals to manage their affairs. [Daily Times]
