The Central Bank of Nigeria has set aside over N5.7bn to give as loan to 10,000 farmers to encourage dry season wheat farming in Bauchi State. The CBN Comptroller, Bauchi Branch, Saladu Idris, who disclosed this at the flag-off of the programme at the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi on Thursday, said that 4,500 farmers had so far benefitted in the state. He said each farmer would be given N370,000 cash, six bags of urea, four bags of NPK fertiliser, pumping and spraying machines. He said the CBN had taken proactive steps by reaching out to the farmers through associations so that only those targeted would benefit. [Punch]
The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the final stage of construction of its new Kaduna-Jos 330KV double circuit transmission line, which is to raise the facility’s capacity to evaluate 1,500 megawatts of electricity. It announced this through the Transmission Company of Nigeria, adding that the construction would come with the erection of eight triple-circuit towers at the intersection point of the new double circuit and existing single circuit 330KV transmission line, to enable the stringing of the three 330kV lines. The General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said the construction of the new facility was in line with efforts to further expand the country’s electricity transmission capacity. [Punch]
The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Bank of Industry (BoI), Mr. Olukayode Pitan, said the bank has provided over N100 billion in funding for the development of the country’s health sector within in the last five years. Speaking at the groundbreaking event for the African Centre for Medical Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja, he said that the project was conceived as a result of the strategic alliance between African Export-Import Bank and Kings College Hospital London to develop medical centres of excellence across Africa. He expressed gratitude to President Muhammdu Buhari for creating an enabling environment for the growth of BoI and other similar institutions across the country adding that the support had given the bank the capacity to take part in a transformational project such as this which is aligned to the bank’s mandate. The Federal Government, Thursday declared that the partnership between the country and the Siemens in the power sector would expand Nigeria’s electricity capacity from the current 4,500MW to 25,000MW. Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, who made the remarks, while speaking as Special Guest of honour at the annual workshop of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria, PCAN, in Abuja,, noted the country was at the dawn of a new era in the power sector. The federal government has expressed it’s readiness to collaborate with Israel on investment on youth innovative and research programmes to tackle poverty in the country. The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), has embarked on a five-year action plan to tackle malnutrition in the country. The National Multi-sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition” was launched as part of activities to commemorate the 2021 Nutrition week sensitisation of MDAs officers on nutrition awareness. Citizens of Kano State and environs are on the verge of benefiting from a full insurance package that is being worked out between the State government and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). The package, to be driven by a joint committee of both bodies will implement the different compulsory insurances approved under the 2003 insurance Act, provide insurance for markets, small and medium scale enterprises, which is hoped will make Kano Third largest premium generating state in Nigeria.
