The Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday approved the 2021–2025 National Development Plan, which is a successor programme to the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. The plan, with an investment size of N348.7tn, will be funded by the federal, state governments and the private sector. Briefing correspondents Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr Zainab Ahmed, explained that the plan was structured on economic growth and development, infrastructure, public administration, human capital development, social and regional development. She revealed that for the investment size, the public sector would contribute N49.7tn while the private sector would supply N298.3tn.[Punch]
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has assured Nigerians of NCC’s commitment towards boosting the nation’s digital economy through responsive regulations. Danbatta gave this assurance at the commission’s 2021 Annual Cybersecurity conference, organised in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which took place in Abuja recently. Danbatta who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management at NCC, Adewolu Adeleke, said the commission would continue to be at the forefront of ensuring sound cybersecurity culture built on people, process and technology to bolster digital economy in Nigeria.[This Day]
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has awarded N20 million grant to four Nigerian tech startups in furtherance of its commitment to encourage development of new indigenous technologies and contents, that are oriented in cutting-edge research to stimulate sustainable economic growth. The four tech startups are: Clearflow System Hub, Aelaus Engineering Teams/Hyech Electronics Solutions, Kalibotics, and CyberNorth Tech. They emerged winners of Virtual NCC Internet of Things (IoT) Code Camp and Hackathon 2021, and they received N5 million each on their innovative technology solutions aimed at making life better for Nigerians. The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Olukayode Popoola, says his ministry is fine tuning modalities for Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to mobilize funding for the Badagry Expressway project. Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the highway would henceforth get lots of attention because of NNPC’s involvement in the project under Federal Government’s Tax Credit Scheme. He explained that the funds were already available but that NNPC was perfecting documentation towards mobilising fully to site. [Daily Times]
Leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for the establishment of Nigeria’s first Academy Support Centre (ASC) to motivate students in the tertiary institution to study ICT. Speaking at the ceremony, the vice-chancellor of ABU, Prof. Kabir Bala (represented by Prof. Muhammed Mu’azu of the University’s Department of Computer Engineering), said the relationship with Huawei, which dates back to 2018, has seen the development of the interest of the institution’s students in ICT which has resulted in winning several competitions in the past.
