The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have formed a partnership to reduce multiple checks of passengers by various government agencies at the nation’s airports especially the international aerodromes. With the elimination of the multiple checks, the two agencies proposed Single Window Border Operation, stressing that once the proposal is approved by the government; it would remove undue bureaucracy and bottlenecks associated with multiple clearances by several agencies for passengers. A statement by Mr. Sunday James, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of immigration stated that Muhammad Babandede, Comptroller-General, NIS and Capt. Musa Nuhu, the Director-General, NCAA canvassed this position in Abuja. he statement added that this would also facilitate ease and seamless passenger clearance without compromising national security at the airports by the deployment of this advance technology combined with the Migration Information Data Analysis System (MIDAS) operated by the NIS at the airport for collection of information and control of entry. Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) is ready to pay the first batch of the verified Ex-Workers and Next of Kin (NoK) of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) in line with the takeover approval of pension- related matters of some agencies, privatized/liquidated by the Bureau of Public Enterprises in 2017, among which is the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO). The Executive secretary, Dr. Chioma Ejikeme explained that the Directorate carried out a physical verification and biometric capture exercise for eligible ex-workers and Next-of-Kin (NOK) of deceased ex-workers of NAHCO during the Directorate’s nationwide Parastatals Pensioners Verification Exercise conducted in 2019. Subsequently, the collated data were subjected to rigorous due processes culminating in the computation and auditing of the entitlements of the verified ex-workers and NOKs. She said the Directorate is prepared to make payment to the first batch of NAHCO ex-workers and NOKs that are eligible to receive this ONE-OFF (FINAL) payment.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu has said that there has been an upsurge on sexual-based violence as a result of the lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic. IGP Adamu, who was flanked by the Ministers of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said within five months, the Police have recorded 717 rape incidents, arrested 799 rape suspects, 631 of the cases investigated and charged to court, while investigations are ongoing on 52 of the cases. The Police boss, who said that some people indulge in rape for ritual purposes, assured that all those involved in the criminal act will not go scotched free. According, “We are here to brief you on sexual and gender-based violence and the action that the government has been taking, particularly the Nigeria Police. “It has come to the public knowledge now that because of the COVID-19 restrictions, we have surged in cases of rape and gender-based violence. These are cases that are now coming up but we want to let members of the public know that, rape and gender-based violence have been there. The law enforcement agents have been dealing with these cases, in most cases, members of the public are not aware of the actions that the law enforcement agents have been taking. The Nigeria police so far from January to May 2020, we have recorded about 717 rape incidents that were reported across the country, about 799 suspects have been arrested, 631 cases conclusively investigated and charged to court and 52 cases are left and under investigation.” Vanguard reports.

As reported by Vanguard, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, on Monday, announced that the Ministry had developed a Health Sector Response Plan for the containment of COVID-19 within the next three years. Ehanire, who made the disclosure in Abuja at the Presidential Taskforce (PTF), briefing on COVID-19 in Nigeria, said that the plan would be executed in near, medium, and long term phases within the period. “COVID-19 will be with us for a long time. We shall keep learning as we go along. Hence the plan will require modification and updating as we learn more about the disease. “Despite the rising figures, the case fatality rate remains at about three percent which is lower than in many countries, but not a cause for relief.” Ehanire said that because of the increasing cases, it was important for people to be proactive so as to reduce the fatalities.
