Nigeria’s crude palm oil import from Malaysia — the world’s second-largest producer — has declined by 20.6 percent year on year as local production rises on increased investments, data from the Malaysian Palm oil Council (MPOC) shows. Nigeria crude palm oil (CPO) import from Malaysia declined from 95,621mt in the first four months in 2020 to 75,948mt in the same period in 2021. Experts say the sharp drop in the volume of importation can be attributed to the ongoing massive investments by plantation owners in the country, boosting local production in the last five years. Big players like PZ Wilmar, Dufil Prima Foods, Agri Palm Limited, Presco, and Okomu among others are investing massively and developing backward integration projects in oil palm across the country.
