The Nigerian Communications Commission has announced that three telecoms companies have qualified as approved bidders of the forthcoming 3.5 gigahertz spectrum auction for the deployment of Fifth-generation networks in the country. They include MTN Nigeria Plc., Mafab Communications Limited, and Airtel Networks Limited. In a statement signed by the Director Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde yesterday in Abuja, the commission noted that the qualified bidders have also met the Intention to Bid Deposit as outlined in the Information Memorandum. The Federal Government through the ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has commenced the training of selected youths from the nine Niger Delta States on various skills programmes. The Guardian gathered that about 25 participants were selected from each state of the Niger Delta through state government protocol to participate in the programme. The institutions partnered Ufu-Gold Projects, skills training consultants, to train the youths in various skills that are relevant to the petroleum sector, such as production of anti-corrosion paints and house paints, making of various kinds of soaps for car washing, laundry and household use and electrical wiring, among others. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has declared that the country’s active internet users has reached over 140 million with broadband penetration at 40.01% as at the end of September 2021. NCC’s executive vice chairman, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, made the declaration on Thursday in Port Harcourt while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum organised for the commission’s licencees in the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones. Danbatta, who was represented by the executive commissioner, Stakeholders’ Management, Mr. Adeleke Adewolu, said the commission will continue to roll out forward-looking and all-inclusive regulatory initiatives to provide market opportunities for all licencees. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says its suspended scholarship scheme is being reviewed to achieve a more positive impact. Speaking during an occasion to mark the International Youth Day 2021, the Interim Administrator, NDDC, Effiong Akwa, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Youths and Sports, Udengs Eradiri, said the commission would rather spend its resources upgrading schools in the country especially in the region to absorb its scholarship students. He said that as part of the review, only students interested in special courses not offered in Nigerian schools would be sent abroad for studies, explaining that the commission was making efforts to create a conducive environment for the youths to actualize their potentials.[Tribune]
