Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Peterside, has said that the agency remitted about N16bn into Federal Government’s consolidated account in 2019. Peterside, who made the disclosure at a recent event, said that the agency generated the amount from the new improved ship registry, which accounted for increased tonnage and annual maritime forecast. He said, “This accounts for the N16bn it contributed to the nation’s consolidated revenue account as at October 2019.” He said further that “government will continue to support the maritime sector because on it rests opportunities for wealth creation and economic growth.” Sahara Reporters reported.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has restored supply of petroleum products on it system 2b pipeline which experienced fire explosion in Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb, yesterday, even as it deplored the level of conspiracy among some communities that harbour its pipeline right of way which have compromised with vandals to siphon products from the pipelines. Mele Kyari , group managing director expressed his disappointment with communities living along the corporation pipeline right of way which often compromise with vandals to steal fuel. He urged the communities living along the pipeline right of way to report activities of vandals in their area so that the incident of vandalism can be reduced to the barest minimum. He stated further that whatever happens to the pipelines would have adverse effect on everybody as there would always be disruption in fuel supply. He said having shut down to contain the damaged on Sunday, the corporation has now been able to restore supply on the line by yesterday. “We are back on stream. Petroleum products are flowing all the way from Atlas Cove to Mosimi all the way to Ilorin. We enjoin everyone to work with us in sustaining this.” According to Business Day, the NNPC boss said the corporation needs the support of everybody in the community top expose the bad eggs in their midst. We are counting on Nigerians to help us resolve this as it is becoming a matter of national security.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has commissioned a Community IT Centre in Hadejia Local Government of Jigawa State. According to IT Edge News, the project was established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). One of NITDA’s ICT interventions in the northwest zone of Nigeria, the new Hadejia Community IT Centre is part of government’s effort to diversify the country’s economy and is one of the three community IT training centres provided by the NITDA across the country, said Dr. Pantami while commissioning the Hadejia centre. He told the audience he laid the foundation of the IT centre in 2018 when he was still the director general of NITDA and commended his successor, the current director general of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, for his commitment to ensuring the centre was completed. According to the minister, the IT centre fulfills President Muhammadu Buhari’s goal for a national digital economy in order to be part of the global tech-led economy. Pantami further tasked state governors to support the federal government in helping to foster wealth creation initiatives that leverage ICT tools. Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar described the centre as a rallying point for development able to make young people to become self-reliant individuals.
Federal Government has concluded plans to establish an Agro-allied industry in each senatorial district in the country. The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Maryam Katagum made this known during a meeting with a delegation from the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria in Abuja. The Minister of State explained that the move was aimed at sustaining food security and economic growth. Ambassador Katagum stressed the need for value addition and certification of the food products to meet with the international standard for export. Earlier, the Chairman of Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria, Haruna Pambeguwa who led the delegation, sought the support of the Ministry to enable their products to compete globally.
