The Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello Koko, has revealed that the authority has exceeded its revenue target having remitted N89.9 billion into the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF). Koko, who disclosed this in documents presented to the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Habours, said the NPA has also reduced its operating expenses by 20 per cent of its budget for this year. The effort, he stated, was despite the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on global trade and supply chain logistics. THISDAY
The Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators has recommended the establishment of specialized commercial courts populated by appropriately trained judges who are equipped with a fit-for-purpose functional digital court recording and operating system. The Institute said this will go a long way to alleviating the delays encountered in the process of enforcement of arbitral awards in the Nigerian judicial system. In a communique issued at the end of its annual conference and Investiture, the Institute said the future of Arbitration and the future of the world is remote, decentralised and digital, saying this means there is a fusion for in person and virtual experience referred to as a hybrid and that is the future of Arbitration proceedings. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has said the bank has disbursed N41.2bn under its intervention schemes to cut wheat production. Speaking after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, he said, “The bank also disbursed the sum of N41.2bn for the commencement of the brown revolution, a large-scale wheat programme to wean us off imports by 35 per cent in the first year.” He said between September and October 2021, the bank, under the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, disbursed N43.19bn to support the cultivation of over 250,000 hectares of maize, sorghum, soya beans and rice during the 2021 dry season. The Federal Government, through the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), is set to graduate over 400 persons in freight forwarding, supply chain management across 16 accredited tertiary institutions in the country. The maiden graduation ceremony, which will take place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Saturday, will have the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, send forth the graduates from tertiary institutions across the geopolitical zones of the country into the business of freight forwarding and supply chain management. The Registrar, CRFFN, Samuel Nwakohu, said the course was initiated by the Federal Government to ensure the council weeds out non-professionals and miscreants within the ports corridors practicing the business of freight forwarding and supply chain management in which Nigeria is still lagging behind globally. The Federal Government has inaugurated enhanced e-passport to improve the passport application process for Nigerians at home and abroad. Sola Fasure, the media adviser to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made known in a statement he issued on Tuesday in Abuja. According to him, the minister made the disclosure at the official rollout of the enhanced e-passport at the Nigerian High Commission, London. The minister, who revealed that the Nigerian passport was the highest affirmation of Nigerian citizenship, noted that it was the responsibility of the Federal Government to provide the passport without any stress and within a reasonable period.
