The Federal Government has begun a high-powered probe of the circumstances that led to a major judgment against Nigeria over an aborted gas project, even as it said it would not relinquish assets to Process and Industrial Developments Ltd (P&ID), a firm registered in the British Virgin Islands. As reported by Business Day, the Nigerian government is also ready to appeal the recent judgement by a London court which ordered it to pay $9 billion, the equivalent of N3.5 trillion, to the British engineering firm, according to Information Minister Lai Mohammed, who addressed journalists at a major press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Business Day, the federal government has on Monday promised the revamp of agricultural research institutes across the country to promote sectoral growth and food security in the country. Sabo Nanono, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development who made the pledge while receiving briefs from the research agencies in Abuja on Monday, said that his administration will ensure that agricultural research institutes in the ministry are strengthened to promote improved seedlings that will galvanize food production in the country. He said “I want to be very serious with the research institutes, so that they will research on improved seeds that will be suitable to our environment, as the institutes are the engine of growth in the sector. Nanono who highlighted the great potentials of Nigerians in many spheres of life said his being in charge would scale up efforts towards initiating ways of discovering these potentials especially as they relate to the agricultural sector.

The TraderMoni scheme, other Government Enterprise and Empowerment (GEEP) micro-credit products (MarketMoni and FarmerMoni), a component of the Buhari administration’s Social Investment Programme(SIP) are still very much in operation, the Presidency has said. Mr Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Office of the Vice President, disclosed this in a progress report on GEEP made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. He said that contrary to speculations in some quarters, the micro-credit schemes had not stopped, as 30,000 petty traders had received TraderMoni loans after elections. Leadership reported.
