The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI), Sun Trust Bank and the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), have jointly released $1.2 million to Santuscom Agro Investment to boost rice production. Managing Director, Santuscom Agro Investment Company Limited, Paul Ofana, in a statement yesterday, explained that the firm signed Memorandum of Understandings with CBN, BoI, SunTrust Bank, and NIRSAL Microfinance Bank to access the facilities. According to Ofana, the BoI/SunTrust facility is for procurement of equipment, plant and accessories for complete rice milling plant of 60 tonnes per day, which is put to the tune of over N300 million.[Sun News]
Acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, has said that to actualise the country’s maritime hub status and boost port revenue in the region, there is a need for investments in modern deep seaports that would attract very large merchant vessels. Speaking on the new direction and measures being put in place to actualise the Authority’s aspirations, the NPA acting managing director explained that a lot has been done, especially in the last few months to resolve most of the identified constraints to efficient movement of cargoes to and from port locations.The acting NPA boss informed the board that recent interventions made by the authority has led to significant improvement in terms of ship and cargo dwell time at the ports.[Guardian]

President Muhammadu Buhari has granted approval to 159 companies, communities, and institutions of higher learning to operate radio and television stations. The Federal Government says it has begun major reforms of the Nigeria Police Force part of which is an annual recruitment target planned to increase the force both numerically and in equipment. President Muhammadu Buhari stated this Tuesday in Port Harcourt during the official commissioning of the Nigeria Police Special Protection Unit Base 6, Omagwa, Rivers State built and donated to the police by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the event, Buhari said that provision of accommodation for men and officers was an important feature of the reform, saying that he had directed that the building of barracks for men and women of the police force should be done in collaboration with the social housing effort or the family homes fund.[Tribune]
