The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that it is in the process of publishing a compendium of registered products to guide consumers in their purchases. The Director-General, NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, said, “The compendium is a veritable source of information and reference material for all stakeholders and consumers of NAFDAC regulated products.” She also stated that in order to stem the influx of illegal drug importation and incidences of drug abuse, NAFDAC had to be readmitted to the seaports. She added, “The return of NAFDAC to the ports has restored the agency’s key responsibility of regulating and controlling the import of regulated products. We have restructured our formations at the various ports within the country to improve our services. Read more Punch.
The Federal Government has inaugurated the National Addressing System Committee to drive the establishment of effective infrastructure through the deployment of innovative technology. Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, said the establishment of a well-articulated National Addressing System, which is long overdue, was predicated on the importance and role it plays in national development beyond the primary aim of mail delivery. He said: “Cast your mind to the past, when you post a letter, the addresses are not well-defined and letters are addressed and posted and most of it get returned, because they cannot identify correctly where the destination of such letters are. Through Information and Communications Technology, ICT, the world has now developed applications, which would make it easy for every inch of Nigerian soil to be properly identified and properly located such that it will be easy for postal staff to get, through technology, the exact location where the letter is supposed to be.” Read more on the Vanguard.
Based on reports by Punch, the Bank of Industry (BoI) says it has been recertified by the International Organisation for Standardisation as being ISO compliant. It said the ISO 9001:2015 QMS-compliant certification was given to it for adhering strictly to Quality Management System principles in delivering financial and advisory services in the country. The bank noted that the ISO 9001:2015 QMS re-certification provided it with a platform to drive its business management tools to deliver efficient and effective business services to its customers. In a statement, the BoI said to achieve the re-certification, it went through “a painstaking and a rigorous process of reviewing, revamping and documenting its business processes, which helped to achieve the initial ISO 9001:2015 QMS certification in 2017, which is the latest version in QMS.”
The Federal Government has said 2,500 beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme are to be trained in fishing in line with its Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator, Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Dokubo, said 100 fishing trawlers would be built in Burutu, Delta State, for the training programme, which would lead to the employment of 2,000 of the beneficiaries. Punch reported that an implementation committee have been inaugurated which comprise of five subcommittees for the project under a National Development Programme through Industrial Fishing and Associated Seafood Production. He expressed conviction that the training would open a vista of opportunities for beneficiaries of the programme, especially those interested in seafaring and fishing.
The government of the United Kingdom has announced that it is investing £70 million in start-ups and innovative business ideas in Nigeria. According to the UK Minister of Africa, Harriet Baldwin, this would create 100,000 jobs and raise the income level of about 3 million Nigerians. She added that this is an avenue to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and UK and tap into the brilliant innovations that exist within the two countries.
