Punch reports that the “Federal Government, through the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, has opened an internship Centre which will connect more than 5000 unemployed graduates with private companies. Our correspondent learnt that the Centre, Smart Jobs, will train the graduates on business management and skills-based ventures as well as provide them with some start-off capital. The Director-General of the National Institute, Mrs Chika Balogun, while opening the Smart Jobs Centre on Monday, said the government was willing to partner notable private businesses to absorb a large population of Nigerian graduates and unemployed youths. Balogun said the private sector was significant in the country, because only four million youths could be employed in the available spaces in the civil and public service.”

“In a bid to assist the Federal Government to embark on rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in parts of the insurgency-ravaged areas in the North East, Aliko Dangote Foundation has concluded plans to commission a multi-billion naira housing estate.” According to Vanguard, “the Chief Executive Officer of Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs. Zouera Youssoufou, said the commissioning of the 200 housing units for IDPs in Borno State, slated for this month, is coming at a time the foundation also completed the construction of a state-of-the-art hostel in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. Mrs. Youssoufou, who made the disclosure at an event in Maiduguri, Borno state stated that the housing units are one of the many critical interventions the foundation had mapped out for execution in the North Eastern part of Nigeria to restore life to the area and help IDPs live a normal life again. Reacting to the development, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State described Dangote as the single largest benefactor of the IDPs after the federal and state governments.”

Speaking at the event to commemorate the World No Tobacco Day 2018 organized by the Federal Ministry of Health, WHO Country Representative, Dr. Wondi Alemu, explained that the WHO was elated over the federal government’s new taxes on tobacco products and alcohol which commenced yesterday. “President Muhammadu Buhari says he is pleased that Nigeria is now sufficiently safe and secure”. According to Daily Trust, “Buhari said this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja Tuesday while receiving the Secretary-General of United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili. He said it would have been inconceivable to host an international tourism conference in Abuja four years ago because of security concerns. ‘‘I am pleased that the country is now sufficiently safe and secure, and the message should go out to the world for all tourists and business travellers. The first thing tourists look out for is security and I am happy we have it now.””
