The Federal Government has reassured its commitment to the safety of Nigerians resident in Ukraine.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement by its spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, said the government received with surprise reports of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The government however said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been reassured by the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine of the safety of Nigerians in the country and measures being undertaken to keep them safe and facilitate the evacuation of those who wish to leave. The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja said it would continue to seek constructive engagement with members of the medical profession. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment toward addressing the security challenges facing the country. At a gala night in Lafia organised in his honour by the Nasarawa State Government, as part of activities marking his two-day official visit to the state. The Federal Government has approved the verification of commercial forests of all charcoal exporters in Nigeria. In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the association, Adesola Idowu yesterday, he stated that the approval was communicated via a letter dated 9th February 2022, issued by the Federal Department of Forestry, Federal Ministry of Environment. He said the verification will be done in 5 states namely Abuja, Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, Kogi between the 22nd February 2022 and 28th February 2022.[The Sun]
President Muhammadu Buhari and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday inaugurated the apex bank’s Lafia branch to bring banking services closer to the state government and other institutions. Emefiele said, the complex was completed on August 13, 2021 after several years of hard work, using mainly local content, in line with the Buhari administration’s resolve to promote the utilisation of Nigerian resources and services as a way of enhancing the capabilities of our indigenous people without having to compromise quality, safety, health or environmental standards.[The Sun]
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari Friday signed Electoral Act Amendment Bill into law, about a month after the National Assembly sent the bill to him. The signing ceremony was held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Among those present at the ceremony which began at about midday are the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Karu Bus Terminal to conclude his two days working visit to Nasarawa state which kicked off on Thursday, February 24. The President inaugurated the facility in Karu local government area on Friday after earlier inaugurating the Keffi Square and Keffi Neighbourhood Market in Keffi local government area of the state. The inauguration of the Karu Bus Terminal is the climax of activities of his two days working visit to the state which started on Thursday with the inauguration of the Lafia Cargo Airport, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Complex in Lafia, 330/132/33 KV Power Substation in Akurba community, a suburb in Lafia. Others projects inaugurated by the president are the Lafia Vocational and Technology Institute, Lafia, Lafia Bus Terminal and the Kilema-Barkin Abdullahi-Shinge road. [Sun News]
