The President, Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, directed the nation’s service chiefs to replicate the kinetic and non-kinetic methods deployed in quelling the violence in the North-East nationwide. Buhari, at the Passing out Parade and Commissioning Ceremony of Cadets of 69 Regular Course (Army, Navy and Air Force) of the Nigerian Defence Academy, said, “I have instructed the service chiefs to replicate the successes recorded in the North-East to other parts of the country.” The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday titled, [Punch]
President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the proposed N19.76 trillion budget for the 2023 financial year to the National Assembly. The budget, which is the last presented by the Buhari administration, is about 15.37 per cent higher than the amount budgeted in 2022. Buhari revealed this while presenting the 2023 appropriation bill to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja that the federal government targets N1.92tn in oil revenues in 2023. [The Sun]
The Federal Government has declared Monday 10th October 2022 as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration. Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government, yesterday in Abuja. The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has called on African states, non-governmental organisations, private organisations and other stakeholders to synergise efforts at harnessing seabed resources to boost the continent’s Blue Economy. Osinbajo made the call in his keynote address at the 4th African Deep Seabed Resources (ADSR) Workshop. Osinbajo said that the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) provided for all nations to explore and exploit mineral resources on the seabed beyond national jurisdiction for benefit of mankind.[Guardian]
The Federal Government is putting concrete security measures in place to safeguard train passengers and railway infrastructure across the country. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr Fidet Okhiria, told the Newsmen in Abuja. ”A team was set up, not just for Abuja-Kaduna but for rail security and we are meeting to ensure concrete measures to safeguard train passengers and railway infrastructure across the country. ”We have broken into committees and while that is going on, those things we need to put in place to help us run safe and secure trains are also being put in place within the NRC. The federal government yesterday in Abuja inaugurated 11 sub-committees for the successful hosting of the 21st National Sports Festival tagged “Delta 2021” slated for Delta State. The sub-committees will function under the Main Organising Committee (MOC) earlier inaugurated by the minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare. The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and chairman of MOC, Ismaila Abubakar, while inaugurating the 11 sub- committees, described it as a milestone in efforts towards successful staging of the Nigerian Olympic Games from November 28 to December 8, 2022 in Delta State.[Leadership]
THE minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk said the federal government has voted N70 billion to 1.4 million small-scale farmers and petty traders under second phase of the Government Empowerment Enterprise Programme (GEEP). The minister made the disclosure in Dutse, Jigawa State capital while launching the second phase of the programme in the state. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday said the federal government is developing a verifiable database of teachers in Nigeria, adding that already, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has registered 2,108,342 teachers and licensed 1,250,000 teachers.The Vice President while speaking at the Eagle Square, Abuja during the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day, disclosed that the registration and licensing of teachers are part of efforts at implementing the professional teaching and teacher qualification framework standards that will invariably impact education outcome and teacher performance at the pre-school, basic, secondary and tertiary levels.
