The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Dr. Andrew Kwasari, has said all appeared set for the implementation of the much-awaited Green Imperative project to modernise and introduce mechanised agriculture going forward. Agricultural mechanisation which is a major priority of the federal government to boost the sector is effectively captured in the $1.2 billion green imperative agreement recently signed between Nigeria and the government of Brazil for the production and deployment of 10,000 tractors to be assembled in the country. The Federal Government on Thursday handed over a two-kilometre road it constructed to the Federal Polytechnic (FedPoly), Nasarawa, Nasarawa State. The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola on behalf of the Federal Government did the handing over to the management of the school. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the road construction is part of the 43 road intervention embarked upon by the Federal Government within tertiary institutions across the country. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), says Nigeria’s GDP grew by 0.11 per cent in Quarter Four (Q4) 2020, from the 6.11 per cent contraction in Q3, signalling a gradual recovery from recession. The NBS said this in the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Report (Q4 and Full Year 2020) released on its website on Thursday in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the new Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola announced on Thursday. The Minister also added that the President approved the nomination of Haliru Nababa as the new Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service. [Nation]

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the rebuilding of communities destroyed by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State and other affected states in the country. A committee presided over by the Vice-President; Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been constituted and mandated to find ways of providing welfare and other needed facilities in these communities. The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Andrew Kwasari said a direct investment of $1.2 billion has been secured under the Green Imperative Project for Nigerian Farmers. Dr. Kwasari while addressing the press in Abuja on Wednesday noted that the investment has been structured financially to allow the government of Nigeria use a bi-lateral negotiation and arrive at a financing that is below 3% per annum interest rate and a gestation period of about 15 years to be paid. As part of reforms that would come with the introduction of electronic call-up system to ease truck movement in and out of Ports in Lagos, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has banned consignees from taking empty containers to any port location in Lagos. With this ban, the NPA aimed at either reducing amount or eliminating the multi-billion-naira annual loss by cargo owners to international shipping companies as demurrage. [Business Day]

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the resolution of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to compensate victims of herder-farmer conflicts in the country. Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, stated this while briefing state house correspondents on the outcome of the NEC meeting alongside Atiku Bagudu, his Kebbi state counterpart, on Thursday. Abiodun said the council believes that those who had suffered losses, owing to the farmer-herder conflicts, should have a sense of compensation. [Cable]
