The Federal Government yesterday handed over the National Arts Theatre to the Bankers Committee for transformation into the Lagos Creative and Entertainment Centre. This follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and contract award signing ceremony held yesterday in Lagos between the FG, represented by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed and the Bankers Committee, represented by the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele. Nigeria is to make another push for a major public-private initiative aimed at rebuilding its derelict infrastructure and generating badly needed jobs in Africa’s largest economy. Gov. Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe has commended the Federal government for approving N8 billion for the construction of a dam in Damaturu to boost water supply. In a statement, in Damaturu, Mala-Buni said that the project, approved by the Federal Executive Council, on Wednesday, would tremendously contribute to solving water scarcity in Damaturu, the state capital and its environs, as well as complement the state government’s efforts of finding a lasting solution to the problem. The Federal Government has trained over 26,800 youth under the first and second phases of the N-Built components of the National Social Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P). Mr Christopher Belonwu, Honorary General Secretary, Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) said, “Typical example of Government-sponsored job creation programmes in the construction industry is the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P). Over 16,800 and 10,000 in the first and second phases of the N-Built components of the SURE-P have been trained by the government.” [Tribune]
