President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday, August 17, 2021, confirmed and ratified International Coffee Agreement, 2007, following Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval of Nigeria’s membership of the International Coffee Organization (ICO). The 2007 Agreement will strengthen the ICO’s role as a forum for intergovernmental consultations, facilitate international trade through increased transparency and access to relevant information, and promote a sustainable coffee economy for the benefit of all stakeholders and particularly of small-scale farmers in coffee producing countries.[State House]
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Thursday announced the execution of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction and equipment procurement contracts for a 50 megawatts emergency power project in Maiduguri, Borno State. It said the project had China Machinery Engineering Company as the EPC contractor, while General Electric was the equipment manufacturer. He said in a statement issued in Abuja by the NNPC spokesperson, Garba-Deen Muhammad, that the project would be fired with Liquefied Natural Gas and would run commercially. [Punch]
The Federal Executive Council has approved N1.7billion for the acquisition of permanent office for the Nigeria Extractive Industries, Transparency Initiative, and purchase of scanners for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina disclosed that N537million of the N1.7 billion was approved for NEITI to acquire a permanent office in Abuja, N985million for procurement of Body Dual Scanners Solution with x-ray management software. He said the remaining balance of N187million was for the purchase of vehicles for FRSC to check road accidents in the country. [Punch]
The Nigerian Embassy to the Kingdom of Belgium has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with an international law firm A-Law on strengthening the economic ties between Nigeria and Belgium. The MoU is aimed at leveraging and exchanging information and network in the areas of trade and investment, maritime and logistics, agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare and other relevant sectors of interest in Nigeria. The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday, approved N21,107,212,510 for projects in the aviation and education ministries, as well as for some federal agencies. Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, said Council approved four memoranda for his ministry worth about N16,697,742,839. The projects are contracts for the construction of Wachakal Airport in Yobe State at the cost of N6.3 billion; Procurement of eight airport rescue and fire fighting vehicles at the cost of N9.5 billion. Council also approved a memorandum for the ministry in favour of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun, FUPRE, in Delta State, for the construction of facilities, including hostels, at the cost of N2.7 billion. Federal Ministry of Water Resources has launched a compendium and digital map of dams and irrigation schemes in the country with the code of practice for dam reservoir operations in Nigeria. This is to aid in digital inventory of all dams and irrigation projects for investment planning and management. According to the Minister, the dam construction with various purposes like water supply, hydro power generation, irrigation for all season farming and flood control among others, was borne out of the need to harness the immense potential and sustainable development and management of water resources for effective planning and to transform the irrigation sector scheme. The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has commenced the construction of its Integrated Farm Estate in Ogun state and is expected to be completed by February of 2022, with a target of engaging one thousand five hundred beneficiaries (1500) to generate two billion naira annually. The farm estate which is set to be NALDA’s biggest production farm in fish, goat and snails, is located on one hundred hectares of land in the state’s Special Agro-Industrial Zone, in Makun-Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State.
