President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday announced an offer of automatic employment to 110 former members of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the Federal Civil Service. The President, who also offered scholarships to the ex-corps members for the pursuit of postgraduate studies up to a doctoral level in any university in Nigeria directed the relevant government agencies to ensure timely implementation of all the incentives for the award recipients. The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Information and Culture and the Central Bank of Nigeria as well as the Bankers’ Committee for the renovation of the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after a meeting of the council presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari. Mohammed said the CBN and Bankers’ Committee were willing to invest N21.89bn to renovate the National Theatre complex. [Punch]
Yobe State Governor, Mai-Mala Buni, has commended the Federal Government for approving N8bn for the completion of the Damaturu urban regional water supply project. The governor was said to have stated in a press statement by his spokesman, Mallam Mamman Mohammed that the project approved by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday would contribute immensely to solving water scarcity in Damaturu, the state capital. Buni said the project would complement the efforts of the state government in addressing water problems of the state capital and its environs. [Punch]
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday approved contracts worth over N26.7 billion for projects under the ministries of Information and Culture; Communication and Digital Economy, and Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. This is as the Federal Government has said that the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy generated over 17.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Products, GDP of the country. [Vanguard]
No fewer than 1,500 rural dwellers in Dakkiti, Akko LGA of Gombe State on Tuesday benefitted from a public private partnership of Rural Electrification Agency. Speaking at the launching of the 100 unit of solar panel, consisting of 96 batteries and 30KVA generator, Managing Director of REA, Salihijo Ahmed, said this was one amongst federal government’s efforts to power unserved and underserved rural communities. The Federal Government on Tuesday said apart from wealth creation, the nation’s moribund industries will be resuscitated through the $3.4tn African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement among the 54 countries in the continent. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, said this during the National Action Committee on AfCFTA’s sensitisation of stakeholders in Kaduna State on Tuesday. The minister, represented by the Director, Trade Department of the ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, said the AfCFTA was all about promoting industrialisation in the continent. [Punch]
The Solicitor-General, Dayo Apata, SAN, has said the Federal Government would establish a database of forfeited assets. He said this would be done by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Disposal of Federal Government Forfeited Assets. Apata, who is the committee chairman, assured that it would ensure that the Federal Government gets value for all the forfeited assets soon to be disposed. [Punch]
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved about N8.9 billion for the establishment of a new National Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) park in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to coordinate public and private ICT hubs in the country. Also briefing the correspondents at the FEC Briefing, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, said the FEC had approved a new National Policy on Aging as part of efforts by the Federal Government to ensure the socio-economic safety of the aged in the society. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, has said about 30 million Nigerians now have access to quality health services. The Executive Director of the agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib,who stated this, Wednesday, at the Nigeria State Health Investment Project, NSHIP Closure Workshop, in Abuja. Noting that the NSHIP project of the federal government has brought total turnaround of the country’ health sector, he claimed:”This transformation has ensured that about 30 million Nigerians, including women and children, have access to quality basic health services and secondary services for continuum of care.” [Vanguard]
