The Federal Government through the Ministry of Power will in March sign a $200 million deal with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the implementation of transmission expansion programme. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), transmitted the 2022 Appropriation Act (Amendment) Bill to the National Assembly. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced transmission of the Federal Government’s supplementary budget at the opening of plenary on Tuesday. Though Gbajabiamila did not read out the content of the six-page executive bill, it is expected to contain a provision for the payment of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, for an additional 18 months. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to protect electricity consumers in the country. Chairman of the Commission, Sanusi Garba, speaking at the event in Abuja, stated that the agreement was a formalisation of processes to ensure that Nigerians get value for money in the power sector. The Federal Government, Monday, launched a road map it developed to sustain effective humanitarian interventions in the country. The five-year strategic roadmap, developed by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, and tagged: ”Mapping out a life of dignity for all”, introduced implementation, monitoring, evaluation, review and reporting mechanisms that will be deployed to ensure effective results delivery. The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, said that the Agency is committed to continued collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria sustains the declining rate of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea region.
