President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the composition of the Federal
Government’s Team to engage with Twitter over the recent suspension of
the operations of the microblogging and social networking service in
Nigeria. The approval was announced in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who will chair the team.[Vanguard]
The Independent National Electoral Commission, in its bid to resume the Continuous Voter Education next week, has introduced an online portal for registration. The INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known while briefing the press on Monday in Abuja. In a statement released on Tuesday titled “Continuous Voter Registration: Media professionals, INEC agree to sensitise citizens,” the Chairman said that the online registration will help to reduce the burden of long queues during CVR. The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N18 billion as take-off grant for four new universities. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Sunday Echono, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Monday. According to Echono, the take-off grant came after the promise made by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to establish Universities of Technology and Health Sciences in Nigeria during his campaign in 2015.[Punch]
The Federal Government has announced the development of a National Humanitarian Development Peace Framework. The soon to be launched framework is geared towards making humanitarian interventions in Nigeria timely, effective and coordinated between government, humanitarian and security agencies. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said during a virtual briefing to United Nations Member States on the Humanitarian Situation in Nigeria, yesterday, that the National Humanitarian Coordination Technical Working Group, as directed by the National Humanitarian Coordination Committee (NHCC) came up with the initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in Nigeria. The new management of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) would focus on increasing personnel productivity and ensure enrolees of its Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) get value for their contribution. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has begun training 70 aeronautical and meteorological forecasters and observers in order to ensure aircraft safety.
