The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono has commissioned the yam storage facility at the Faculty of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He said the facility has capacity to store between 45–50 Metric Tonnes of yam seed and is estimated to cover 16 hectares of land when planted. The minister also noted that the huge output of using clean seed yam would boost production, increase earnings of yam farmers and enhance the export of yam from the state.[This day]
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami has reiterated the commitment of the federal government to building a viable digital economy for the country. The federal government has given the $20 million accelerated funding grant for education emergency from the Global Partnership for Education, GPE, to Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu,Tuesday,in Abuja. Adamu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Arc. Sonny Echono, said the grant would assist in improving foundational learning skills, establish robust teacher preparation, professional development and recruitment systems, address protection issues, and strengthen leadership capacity for education in emergency for long term sustainability as well as system strengthening. Timely intervention by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance to block sources of revenue leakage in the financial system has yielded a positive result. The Ministry of Finance blocked the revenue leakages by streamlining the receipt of all payments for transparency, accountability and probity, especially revenues from Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The result came with the government saving N2.4 billion from various payment sources, which has been into a Special Concession Account (SCA) within within few months of its operations. (Business Day)
Nigeria has given its backing to full implementation of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme to guarantee prompt compensation to victims of road accident within the ECOWAS member states. Zainab Ahmed, minister of Finance, budget and national planning noted that the existence of the scheme and its effective implementation will stimulate integration of the West African Regional Block preparatory to the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) subscribe to by most of ECOWAS countries. Gbemisola Saraki, minister of state for transportation, has said that the National Maritime Transport Policy being developed by Nigeria would lead to improved inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and enhance the ability of the Nigerian maritime sector to compete internationally. The presidential task team on the restoration of law and order on Apapa traffic gridlock has outlined its achievements to the federal government following the completion of its assignment and official handover to the Lagos state government.
