The Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday approved about ₦89.6billion worth of contracts under the Ministries of Works and Housing; and Aviation. The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to State House correspondents alongside Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, saying that FEC approved the contract for the dualisation of the Odukpani-Itu―Ikot Ekpene road for the sum of ₦79.649bn.[Punch]
The Federal Executive Council has approved a new National Policy for internally displaced persons in the country. Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, disclosed this when she briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting. The Federal Government has commenced payment of six months arrears owed beneficiaries of National Conditional Cash Transfer in Anambra State. The beneficiaries were drawn from the six pilot Local Government Areas (LGAs) -Ihiala, Dunukofia, Ayamelum, Anambra West, Orumba South and Awka North. The federal government has rolled out the last component of the Survival Fund programme known as the Guaranteed Off-take Scheme (GOS). Government said the purpose of the GOS is to stimulate direct local production by enabling 100,000 MSMEs in the production sector with funds to produce ‘post COVID lockdown’ off-take products. Minister of state for Industry, trade and investment, Amb. Maryam Katagum, at a briefing, said the scheme is giving preference to products produced in reasonably sufficient volumes in each state which have proven propensity to create jobs and have a multiplier effect on the surrounding economy. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N25 billion for the upgrade and replacement of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Identity Infrastructure. The Minister said that the money will also be used for the implementation of novel initiatives that have increased the registration of persons to over 62 million on the National Identity Database (NIDB).
