The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday, presided over the launch of the emblem appeal fund for the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, Punch reported. The event took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Buhari launched the emblem with N10m. The launch holds annually to raise fund in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday, quoted the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as assuring all stakeholders that Nigeria and Bangladesh will consolidate the mutually rewarding relationship between the two nations. Adesina disclosed this in a statement titled “We’ll continue to expand on our successes, President Buhari assures outgoing Bangladeshi High Commissioner.” He said the President gave the assurance while receiving the outgoing High Commissioner of Bangladesh, MD Shameen Ashan, in a virtual farewell audience, on Tuesday. He said, the President congratulated the envoy on “the strides you have attained on the relationship between our two friendly countries. We will continue to expand on what you have achieved, operations in agriculture, military cooperation, and in many other areas, will continue.” The presidential aide also quoted the outgoing High Commissioner as thanking Nigeria for the support he received in about two-and-a-half years he spent here, noting that bilateral relations between the two countries have improved tremendously, with many Memoranda of Understanding signed, and others still in the works. The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday approved N4.519 billion for the award of contract for the printing of examination materials and rehabilitation of road networks within the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja. This was disclosed at the end of the 21st FEC virtual meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja. Briefing State House correspondents, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu explained that N2.9 billion was for the printing of materials for Basic Education Certification Examination, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the National Common Entrance. He said, “Today (yesterday), Council approved the award of contract for the printing of examination materials both sensitive and non-sensitive. The contract is worth N2.9 billion. “It was awarded to a group of eight printers. The materials are for the Basic Education Certification Examination, the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the National Common Entrance.” Also, briefing journalists, the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello said N1.619, 701,391.14 billion contract was approved for the rehabilitation and upgrading of some selected roads in the satellite towns of the FCT. According to him, “Council approved the sum of N900,294,304.75 to fix the roads in Gwagwalada Area Council. The contract which is for the duration of six months was awarded to Messrs Teleview International Nigeria Limited. Council also approved a total of N719,407,086.38 for the Kwali Area Council Rural Roads. The contract is in favour of Messrs Sahabi Liman Sons Nig. Ltd for a duration of six months.” [Vanguard]
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 29 as Public Holiday to mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, the Islamic festival commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Director Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga said the declaration was made by the Interior minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on behalf of the Federal Government. According to the statement, the minister congratulated the Muslim faithful both at home and in the diaspora for witnessing this year’s occasion. “He enjoined them to imbibe the spirit of love, patience and perseverance which are the virtues of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding that doing so would guarantee peace and security in the country.” While calling for a stop to all divisive tendencies across the country, the Minister urged Nigerians and the youth in particular, to embrace peace and cooperate with the President Muhammadu Buhari led-Administration in its effort to build a virile nation, which all citizens can be proud of. The Federal Government told the Senate Tuesday that arrangements are in top gear for ten new Airports in the country as part of moves to boost the Aviation sector. Disclosing this today in Abuja when he appeared before the Senator Smart Adeyemi, All Progressives Congress, APC, Kogi West led Senate Committee on Aviation for 2021 budget defense by the Ministry of Aviation and its agencies, the Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika, said that both the executive arm of government and the National Assembly have collaborated for the growth and development of the civil Aviation sector since 2015 when the current administration came on board through the development of a roadmap, which is being implemented. The Minister who noted that the Aviation sector has become the fastest growing sector of the economy, despite the setback suffered from the COVID -19 Pandemic, said that this explained why the government is planning to build new seven airports in Anambra, Benue, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Gombe, among other states. He also noted that Kebbi, Osubi, Dutse airports have been taken over by the Federal Government while the Gombe State government had also written the federal authorities, asking it to take over the Gombe Airport.
