The Federal Government will in May introduce a system online for the tracking and monitoring of passport applications. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said this at the opening of a two-day workshop for Passport Control Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Abuja on Tuesday. Aregbesola revealed that the Federal Government had concluded plans to launch a system that would lead to minimal interaction between passport applicants and immigration officers. [Punch]

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, on Tuesday, said the April 2023 completion date for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery was feasible and that the plant would refine 60,000 barrels of crude by early next year. Speaking on the state of repairs of the facility, which was projected to gulp $1.5bn, the minister expressed satisfaction at the level of work. [Punch]

The Federal Government has commenced training for 120 cassava farmers from Ondo, Edo and Ekiti states in the management and control of pests and diseases, particularly white flies on cassava.The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Abubakar speaking at the Federal college of Agriculture Akure, where the workshop was held stated that the government was doing everything possible to eradicate the whiteflies, hence the need for capacity building. The Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as holidays in commemoration of Easter celebrations. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government on Tuesday. In a statement, Dr Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, explained Aregbesola urged Christians to emulate the attributes of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace and patience, which were the attributes and practices of Jesus Christ, as exemplified by his ministry on earth.[The Sun]

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of three new polytechnics in various parts of the country. A statement issued on Tuesday by, the director of Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, said the new institutions will be located in Kano, Abia and Delta states.“In line with his determination to make tertiary education more accessible, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has approved the establishment of three New Federal Polytechnics in the country,” Goong said in the statement.[Guardian]

The Federal Government, FG, Monday, announced that it would be upscaling its moves in combating wildlife and forest crimes in the country.The Federal Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, made this known during an event of National strategy to combat wildlife and forest crime in Nigeria, 2022–2026, in Abuja. Abdullahi stated that despite the approval of the National Strategy Plan on Combating Illegal Wildlife and Forest Crime in the country by the FG, the ministry is still making headway to collaborate with international agencies in order to address wildlife and forest illegalities.[Vanguard]

In its desperate move to reduce the spate of unemployment among youths in the country, the federal government said it has launched a unified job opportunities website for unemployed ones in the 36 States of the federation on job opportunities.The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare made these known after a three-day sensitization workshop on the use of the Nigeria Online Youth Assembly (NOYA) platform held simultaneously at the National Youth Development Centre of Ode Omu in Osun State. THE Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has said that in spite of the progress being made on de-escalating security challenges, more collaboration with the state governments is required. He said this at the first quarter 2022 meeting of the Forum of Secretary to the Government of the Federation with Secretaries to the State Governments held in Abuja. Mustapha noted that in 2021, progress was made by holding two virtual sessions which related on discussions to strengthen national poverty eradication strategy and address the security challenges in the country.
