The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC Limited) Tuesday disclosed that its retail outlets with those of major oil marketers have commenced a 24-hours service to ensure that more motorists are attended to daily. The NNPC Group Executive Director, Downstream, Adetunji Adeyemi told journalists in Abuja that about 2.3 billion litres of petrol would arrive in the country between now and the end of the month to address the supply gap. The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, on Tuesday, assured that the Federal Government would not relent in its efforts at promoting Digital innovation and Entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths. The federal government through the Minister of Power, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu, yesterday inaugurated the Project Management Office (PMO) under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) to oversee implementation of segments of the Siemens power deal. Aliyu, who charged the new team to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties, informed the gathering that members were carefully selected based on competence and technical background. The project was to provide power to Nigerians in three phases of 7,000MW, 11,000MW and 25,000MW under the federal government’s initiative to supply reliable power to the national grid. [This Day]
The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) on Tuesday said some Benin bronzes looted by the British Government from the kingdom in 1897 will be physically handed over to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on Saturday, February 19. The announcement, which is a sequel to the signing of the deed of transfer of the repossessed artworks presented to the monarch by the Federal Government, was contained in a statement signed by Frank Irabor, secretary of the council, and issued to journalists in Benin City. The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has approved the appointment of Mohammed Bello Koko as the substantive managing director for the Nigerian Ports Authority. This was contained in a press statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Transportation on Tuesday. Bello-Koko was on May 6, 2021, made the acting managing director of NPA when Hadiza Bala Usman was directed to handover to the most senior Executive Director. [Punch]
Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello on Tuesday visited President Muhammad Buhari at the Aso Villa in Abuja. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, said Bello and Buhari had detailed discussions on politics and security. The CPS added that Bello applauded the President’s efforts in curbing insecurity in the North and other parts of the country, stressing that the people of the zone would soon start reaping the dividends of those efforts. The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and the International Maritime Organization, IMO, are currently working out modalities for an electronic port data exchange programme aimed at developing an efficient Port Community System, PCS. The Nigerian national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, are to receive a cash reward of N25 million from the Federal Government for winning the 2020 Afrobasketball Championships in Cameroon. Nigeria’s D’Tigress beat Mali in the final of the Championships in Cameroon last year to win the Afrobasketball women’s title for the third time in a row.
