In what appears as a pre-commissioning event, the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, yesterday led a team of senior government officials to inspect the progress of work on the second Niger Bridge that is primed to link major cities in the Southeast and Southsouth with the rest of the country. The Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, Lars Richter, disclosed that the level of work on the bridge, which they started in earnest in 2018, had reached 93 percent. [Vanguard]
The Federal Government said arrangements had been made for the provision of accommodation in some Universities in Romania for Nigerian students who fled Ukraine to the country. The Federal Government said the arrangements were for Nigerian students willing to further their education in Romania. The regime of the President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the allocation of houses to 22 members of the 1994 Super Eagles in their various states. With this, the Federal Government has fulfiled a pledge made to the players 28 years ago. Buhari was quoted as announcing this in Lafia, on Monday, during the commissioning of the completed homes under the regime’s National Housing Programme initiative. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has offered taxpayers who have outstanding foreign currency tax liabilities a one-month window to settle such liabilities in Naira. The Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr. Muhammad Nami, said in a notice to the affected taxpayers that they have a window of March 1 to March 31, 2022, for such payment. [Vanguard]
Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, said it targets an average monthly production of over 30,000 booklets of the enhanced electronic-Passports at its newly commissioned passport production centre in Enugu, Enugu State. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, said the moves were part of strategic initiatives to put a permanent end to the lingering challenges faced by Nigerians in obtaining travel passports. The State of Qatar has forecasted its level of investment in Nigeria to hit about N500 billion before the end of the year with current renewed efforts at strengthened bilateral relations.
