The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate in charge of the administration of pensions of federal retirees under the Defined Benefits Scheme said it paid N6.2bn arrears to 16,210 pensioners. It disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday titled ‘PTAD clears pension arrears of 16,210 pensioners, pays N6.2bn’ that this amount included those paid to next of kin of deceased pensioners. [Punch]

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday approved the appointment of Dr Oyebode Oyetunde as Executive Director for Nigeria at the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire. The Federal Government on Tuesday distributed the sum of N20,000 to 3270 vulnerable rural women across Osun state under its conditional cash transfer programme. The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) Plc has partnered the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) on agricultural mechanisation. The initiative is expected to create 110,000 jobs. The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Communications Commission have imposed a new charge for mobile banking services in the country, in a bid to end a row between banks and telecoms operators. From Wednesday, March 16, phone users using their devices for mobile banking will be charged a flat rate of N6.98 per transaction, the regulators announced Tuesday, a move likely to hurt gains made in expanding financial inclusion in the country.
