The federal government has commissioned a 100kW solar hybrid mini grid in Adebayo community in Ovia South East local government of Edo state. The community had been in darkness for decades. Commissioning the project, the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Goddy Jedy-Agba, noted that renewable energy solutions would bridge the electricity gap in the country, adding that the ministry would work with critical stakeholders to create policies that will favour renewable energy investment. The federal government and the OCP Group of Morocco have sealed a bouquet of agreements to boost fertiliser production for Nigerians farmers. It was gathered that a number of agreements were signed between OCP Africa, the Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), in order to commit to the second phase of the Nigerian Presidential Fertilizer Initiative. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, declared Zamfara a no fly zone and also approved a ban on mining activities in the state until further notice over rising insecurity. National Security Adviser, Maj Gen, Babagana Monguno (retd) made the disclosure to State House Correspondents at the end of the over four-hour National Security Council at the presidential Villa, Abuja. For enhanced productivity and wealth creation, the Federal Government has partnered with two foreign investors, Singaporean-based renewable energy firm, B&S Power and SunnyFred Global, to develop 200MW solar farm in Ashama village, Aniocha South , Delta State According to the Minister of Power, Mamman Saleh, the project, which is to occupy about 304 hectares of land is an offshoot of the Federal Government’s policy to attract investment into the off-grid arena. The Federal Government has disbursed N1.13 billion to 11,636 individuals under the MSME survival fund/payroll support scheme in Akwa Ibom state. Specifically, each individual was paid between N30,000 to N50,000 each while 1,364 individuals are expected to benefit from the second phase of the exercise. [Guardian]

Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, said the agency was ready to partner with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas(NLNG) Limited in increasing natural gas production capacity by 36 per cent. Represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, at the virtual multilogues-2 organised by the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA), Usman said the agency would support NLNG in increasing natural gas production from 22 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes yearly. The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has awarded a grant of $320, 535 to the West African Monetary Agency to mainstream gender in ECOWAS’ core digital financial services (DFS) regulatory frameworks. The project, to be executed over a three year period, will potentially affect 350 million people in all 15 ECOWAS nations: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Guinea, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. The federal government yesterday took delivery of 3, 924,000 doses of Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines from India, the first tranche of the 16 million doses expected under Covax arrangement. The Federal Government has given approval for the establishment of dedicated Subscriber Identification Module swap centres by Mobile Network Operators across the Local Government Areas. This is according to a joint statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs at Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, and the Head, Corporate Communications, Mr Kayode Adegoke.
