The Federal Government on Tuesday announced its readiness to assist farmers, mostly youths, to cultivate 3,000 hectares of land in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It said the farming programme, which would be done by about 3,000 youths, was part of activities under the National Young Farmers Scheme of the Federal Government. The Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Land Development Authority, Paul Ikonne, who announced the government’s decision in Ebonyi, said the project in Ebonyi was part of measures adopted by the Federal Government to create jobs, generate wealth and ensure food security in the state and across the country. The Oil and Gas Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC) set up by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has begun sitting to reduce the number of cases that get to the regular courts. Head, Public Affairs of the DPR, Mr. Paul Osu, who signed the statement, stressed that four other cases were currently at hearing stage before the ADRC. According to the DPR, the ADRC is one of the units of the National Oil and Gas Excellence Centre (NOGEC) inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari recently. [This Day]
After over one year drawback as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has stated that construction work on the $10 billion Train 7 project of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited will be accelerated this month. The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr. Simbi Wabote, said this in Lagos, recently, at a media briefing heralding the third/ 2021 edition of the biennial Nigeria Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF) which will hold virtually between May 25 and 26, 2021. Nigeria has received the £4.2 million that the British Government recovered from family members and associates of former Delta Governor, James Ibori. This is contained in a statement issued by Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr Umar Gwandu on Tuesday in Abuja. He said the amount has been credited into the designated Government account with naira equivalent value of the amount as at May 10. [Herald]
Nigeria has produced 30 million bags of 50 kg fertilizers under the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative since 2017, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has said. The PFI has also facilitated an increase in the number of participating blending plants, which rose to 44 from less than seven at inception, the NSIA said in its 2020 audited financial results published last week. Amidst the effort to resuscitate Nigeria’s moribund fertilizer blending plants in order to boost local production, food production and as well achieve food security targets, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the commencement of the PFI on December 14, 2017, during his Budget presentation.
